Samsung BD-P1600 problem solving

I watch many Blu-ray discs. My Samsung BD-P1600 can play most of them without problem, but when I inserted Rocky Blu-ray disc, it displayed “This disc cannot be played” message and refused to play it. I tried to found a solution, but there was no other case like this I could find on the Net.

As I looked into the matter, I realized that the problem might be the firmware. I bought mind in June last year, and Samsung released a firmware update since then. So I downloaded the firmware and tried to install it. But it displayed “An error was detected” message. After I tried both USB and CD update methods, I remembered I downloaded the firmware from Samsung US site, which is for North American market. Since I bought mine in Germany, I needed a region 2 firmware. I could not find the firmware update on Samsung Germany site, so I downloaded it from Samsung UK site. It worked fine, and after the update I could play the Rocky disc without problem on my machine.

I encountered another “This disc cannot be played” message when I inserted The Boat That Rocked(which is a fine movie, by the way). I remembered that some movies that use BD live function may not play well if there is no USB memory stick attached to the BD player. So I connected a USB stick and tried the disc. It worked fine.

So, if you have problem playing a Blu-ray disc on a Samsung player, try updating firmware and/or attaching a USB stick.
