Use Your MBP in Portrait Mode
I have a MacBook Pro 2.16MHz model. I liked the wide screen, but sometimes I wished I could use it in portrait mode, so that I could read PDF files more naturally. I found out I could do that.

What you need is a freeware called Display Rotation Menu. It creates a small menu from which you can choose various display mode. The problem is, when you switch back from Portrait mode to Landscape mode, you cannot use the menubar menu, because Display Rotation Menu is crowded out(at least on my MBP). The solution is, go to System preferences>Display. You will see rotation menu that was not there before(SMSRotateD is supposed to rotate display based on the movement of laptop, but I found it diffcult to control).

To use your laptop in a portrait mode, you will need an external keyboard and mouse. It is almost impossible to use trackpad if you turn your MBP 90degrees, let alone built-in keyboard. Bluetooth models are preferred, since less cable means less chance of accident. I use Apple Bluetooth keyboard with Bluetooth Mighty Mouse, which do the job quite nicely.
