How to connect iPhone/iPod Touch with your mac without network
When you send information back and forth between your mac and your iPhone/iPod Touch, you need to rely on wifi network. But, what can you do when you do not have a wifi network? For example, you have a mac that’s connect to the Internet through the cable modem. You do not have a router, and you do not want to buy one just to connect your iPhone/iPod Touch.
Here is an easy solution.
First, go to airport icon on the menubar (if it is not visible on the menubar, go to System Preferences>Network and choose AirPort and check Show AirPort status in menubar).
Choose Creat Network.
When this window open, put a name of your network (if it is not there yet), then press OK
Then the icon of AirPort menu changes.
Now, go to System Preferences>Sharing
On your iPhone/iPod Touch, go to settings>Wi-Fi then turn on Wi-Fi, and choose the network that you just created.
You should be able to connect to your mac wirelessly now.
If it doesn’t connect, or if you cannot see your computer-to-computer network on your iPhone/iPod Touch, try to restart your mac and/or your iPhone/iPod Touch.
Now, if your mac has Internet connection through Ethernet cable, but your iPhone/iPod Touch does not have Internet connection through wi-fi you can share your mac’s Internet connection wirelessly, too.
Choose Internet Sharing, then choose the source of your mac’s Internet connection, and the method of sharing the Internet connection (in this case, AirPort).
Now the icon of AirPort changes like this, and your mac becomes an access point to your iPhone/iPod Touch.
